A Few Pointers on How to Write Unique and Quality Content

Let's face it, quality traffic only comes from quality content! Maybe you are wondering how you actually write this unique content that people want to read, and that's why I've prepared a little post with a few pointers for you.

When you've found your niche, it's always a good idea to research a bit on on your target group. What will interest them?, and what can you do to make them read your blog with interest?
Start out by creating a fictitious reader profile, to be able to point yourself into what this person in the target group will read about. Use your friends as much as possible if they are in your target group. Ask them to review a few posts, and ask for their honest opinions. Chances are, that your friends have very different perspectives, that you might not have seen or even thought about. If you aren't the sociable type, you need to find readers in your target group, who are willing to help you out.

Another great way to create a profile and/or research on your target group is forums! Forums are very popular, and I can guarantee you, that you'll find a forum that your target group use on a regular basis. Sign up in that specific forum (preferably more forums), and create a survey. Ask them about relevant things like: "What topics interest you?", "Would you read an article about...?", "What would make you come back to a site/blog", etc. etc.
You need to target your posts very precisely.

It's important to be yourself when writing, more people are interested in your own opinion, than you might think. Look at PerezHilton, he gets a million hits every day, just by being himself and posting his honest opinion about celebrities. No matter if you like him or not, he earns quite a bit on his blog!

Look at other blogs in your niche. What kind of topics are they writing about?, how do they do it?, do they use humor?, or are the topics more serious?. Get inspired!

Never steal other people's posts, it will soon be revealed and you will lose your readers. Write your own, and do it good!

Last, but not least: Think outside the box!! It will get you far.

20 Tips to Promote Your New Blog

1. Make it possible for your readers to subscribe to your RSS feed. A good place to sign up is with the popular FeedBurner. Place the RSS feed button in a highly visible place, preferably at the top of your page. If you want to show off how many readers you have, wait until you have 50+. Experiments have shown that people don't sign up to blogs with few RSS readers!

2. Ping your blog as often as possible!

3. Sign up with Technorati, and start making friends with other users. This will help you to get a higher authority and more readers to your blog.

4. Submit your blog to as many directories as possible. BlogCatalog and MyBlogLog are both great places for this.

5. Join forums related to your niche, and add your link in forum signatures. (Do NOT spam, it has no good effect whatsoever)

6. Add your quality posts to social bookmarking sites as Reddit, Del.icio.us and Digg. If you reach the top, you will recieve massive amounts of traffic!

7. Affiliate with other bloggers in your niche (link exchange)

8. Research on SEO (search engine optimization), and make sure you use the right keywords for your blog.

9. Use your link on MySpace and Facebook. Both networks have a massive amount of users online everyday.

10. Have contests. This will make your readers come back, and there is nothing better than returning traffic.

11. Comment on other people's blog (once again; do NOT spam them)

12. A good design is very important. It's the first thing you see when entering, and if users do not find your design/layout trustworthy, they will not return. Avoid a lot of widgets and useless javascripts on your page, it makes it look cheap, and frankly, it's annoying!

13. Get backlinks! And loads of them...

14. Join blog carnivals for fast popularity

15. Make business cards with your url and pass them around

16. Stick to ONE niche. It can easily be too wide and readers will be confused

17. Analyze your blog statistics and take action if needed. Use Google Analytics

18. Sign up to BlogRush for traffic-sharing

19. Newer blogs can use blogsurfing to get a little traffic. BlogExplotion and BlogMad are classics and have a lot of users.

20. Last but not least; QUALITY CONTENT! No reader will return if they feel your content is crappy. Be unique, utter your opinion and write well!

Getting traffic via blog communities

This is my first post in a long series of posts on how to get traffic to your blog or website, starting with a good look at the web's current most popular blog communities.

A blog community is of great value to you, because it will get your site noticed by other bloggers. Therefore I recommend that you join one or more, if you want your site to get more visitors and more returning readers.

Technorati is a mastodont in blog communities. It's a MUST that you add your blog/site here! Not only will you be able to get widgets for your blog, you are also able to follow your own traffic-rank closely. Your Technorati rank (also known as "authority") is based on how many sites that link back to your blog, and how many people who favorite your blog.
It's a very large community, probably the biggest on the net!

MyBlogLog is also a fairly popular community with a lot of users. You can join other people's communities and interact with other users by sending messages. MyBlogLog also provides you with a widget that tracks all visitors to your site, and saves them for you to see in up to 7 days. It means that you can check where your visitors came from, e.g Google searches and images.
It would be smart to join this place as well, as it is a huge community. Not to be missed!

Blogcatalog has the same basic features as MyBlogLog, but in another design! Except there is no tracking-system at Blogcatalog. Features includes widgets with your visitors shown, discussion groups, messaging other users and the opportunity to reach the front page of Blogcatalog with your blog (know as "The Blog Spotlight" and "Featured Blog".

Fuel My Blog is what you'd call a "voting community". You can add your blog(s) and other users can vote you to the top, if they like your site. Once at the top, you will recieve a great deal of traffic from other users of Fuel My Blog. I might add that I hardly got any traffic from this place myself, but maybe you could! It's up to you to decide if it's worth putting the time and effort into this place.

Spicypage is a quite new community compared to the others. It is still in it's Beta version, and to me it looks a bit unprofessional (I'm talking about the design of the page!), but it's still worth a shot in my opinion. The concept is much like Fuel My Blog, with the voting. But you get a lot more with Spicypage incl. "Post your favorite website", groups, messaging and widgets for your site.
